Oh yeah. The West High Auditorium.....was this the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance?

Always liked the song. The location and laid-back, insulated sound of this version make me think High School dance.

HA! The even do JBG! Perfect.

"This is your brother....MARVIN BERRY! You know that new sound you been lookin' for..."

Naturally you like it. Because it's an excellent song :-) I really like that Alaska show. So many times, it really seems the small venues brought out the best. (But then, so did MSG. So go figure.)

And Rob, you really must venture into at least the early 80s. To me, the 68-74 era is a mountain of amazingness; it's what made the Dead the Dead. But there's more to the '80s than Brent and his tinky-wink piano. He'll be your friend if you'll let him!

there are thing you can replace
and others you cannot
the time has come to weigh those things
this space is gettin hot

great verse when the dose was just right

I think that's the one I've seen, with a very funny camera shot. Right at "or just another pretty face," the camera cuts to Bob. Awwww, poor Bob, not fair ... yet somehow so funny ...

I always loved this song for personal reasons, "I was born to be a bachelor", it was my mantra until the Universe saw it differently and forced a laid a wife upon me.

I still pull it out and wonder how things might have been, don't get me wrong, I love my "Althea" but it sure wasn't my plan, like most life is not in our hands.

Here's a great one I saw right before we met.

Off the top of my head: 6/13/80, 10/1/94 are some of my favorites. Don't know if there were many bad ones, these just stand out for me. Forgive me, I'm clueless as to how to post links

madmonk, to post links, just go to the page with the show, highlight the address bar (or whatever it's called at the top that starts http://www.archive.org etc etc), copy it, and paste it into your text as a link.

Hoo boy. This may be my one and only chance to actually sound vaguely like I know something about this online stuff. Thanks, Monk! You have brought me joy :-)

Althea has always been a little bit of a quandary for me. As a song I rate it highly, but it falls within the Mydland era, a place I seldom tread, so I've heard few live performances. I'm willing to be educated. Did Garcia ever perform it in any of his non-Dead incarnations for example?

Not an answer, but more context:

On track 25, Jerry talks about wanting to get Althea right just once. Note that actual track numbers don't seem to correspond to the track listing shown below.
